After wasting $35, $50, $75 on Sportscraft and Franklin croquet sets all in a single season, I splurged. Really, I just want to write "omg this is a great set" in capital letters about 100 times. The mallets have quality handles with threading that actually makes a good connection to the head. The bag is large enough that the mallets can remain assembled and the wickets and stakes are equally well made. The mallet heads do dent/mar from striking the balls. However, it's not really a damaging marring, more like you can tell they've been used. The neighbors and I play croquet alot...first night with this set we played 4 games...again "omg this is a great set". Can't really say anything other than I really don't think anyone will be disappointed with this set if they are a typical weekend/liesure player of the game that wants a set that will last multiple summers. Original post:April 24, 2012 Update: 6/19/2012 After the initial marks put on the mallet ends from striking the balls nothing new has occurred. This set is still in excellent condition. We've been playing on average 6 games each weekend with no perceptible damage. Don't waste your money on Department/Sports store "inexpensive sets" I went through 3 sets last year and only played half the number of games as we'ved played already with this set. 100% satisfied, can't rave enough. Update: 4/21/2013 Close to a year of use now and this set is still in excellent condition. We played 4 games on the weekend. There are not enough good things to say about this set. Heck, how many reviewers come back a year later to rave about their purchase...consider this my rave. If you buy something that costs less you deserve what you get. Update 6/24/2015 After 3 years of steady play, and the exceptionally dry Colorado air my orange mallet head is beginning to split/crack. I emailed, through Amazon, the seller and they are providing a very reasonably priced replacement head. Very impressed with their customer service response. My email was sent Tuesday and they responded today(Wednesday). They gave me an 800 number to call and responded to my message very quickly. My new mallet head is on the way. Overall the set is still in outstanding condition---I always play as orange so that mallet is well used. I do need to consider some sort of preservative as the Colorado climate is tough on wood, very dry air. Once again...gotta say for the price this set rocks!!!! Last Update 11/7/2016, I figure this one is "enough said" on the quality of this set. Another year of use and the set is still going strong. The only issue has been a mallet head drying out and starting to split. I ordered a replacement from the manufacturer a little over $20 with shipping. So at 4+ years of use the set is still great and the quality kicks but on the cheap Sportscraft and Franklin sets.
