Never having owned a humidifier before I don't have much experience to compare this one to but I do know that since I've began using it I've noticed many of my allergy related problems have gone from chronic to barely noticable. I originally purchased this because I was suffering from this weird thing of constantly feeling like I needed to clear my throat, it's hard to describe but it got so bad I couldn't sleep I was a nervous wreck due to lack of sleeping. Couple this with a constant stuffy nose and itchy eyes and life seemed unbearable for a while there. Most of my online research into this issue of my severe allergies said a room humidifier could do wonders. I was skeptical that really one small inexpensive device could really help but I took a shot and this thing really came through. Within the first couple days almost all my problems subsided or at least went to tolerable levels. It didn't cure me, I still have monster allergies that flare up from time to time but at least now I can sleep. I feel more rested when I wake up. I'm not immediately reaching for my allergy meds as soon as I open my eyes. This is the only humidifier I've ever used so maybe I'm not the most well versed in them but the things I like about this one specifically is that it's small enough to fit anywhere and it's really quiet, I mean you can definitely hear it but it's a soft unobtrusive noise. The loudest thing you'll hear is the water gurgling from the tank every once in a while. On full blast a full tank of water seems to last through the night, maybe 8 or 10 hours approximately. On the lowest setting it goes for what I assume to be over 24 hours. Distilled water is inexpensive so I run it on the highest setting through the night and leave it off during the day.
