LOVE the color - minimal kit, longer than a day :)
We just finished our cabinets with Nuvo Cabinet Paint Kits - Titanium White on the uppers and Oxford Blue on the lowers and our island. We absolutely LOVE the final result! It's like we have a whole new kitchen! Here's my review (from a non-professional-painter-somewhat-of-a-perfectionist point of view): The "Kits" -Come with the paint (-> loved it!), a roller ( ->bought different), a brush (->used different) and instructions (helpful to get you started!) Other thoughts: -Definitely not a one day project! I did a lot of research (that started on Pinterest) about painting oak cabinets, read some reviews on Amazon and started off on what turned out to be a 2 month project (for someone that works full time and has to take care of a dog/fur-baby, no kids, but has a wonderful husband that was on puppy duty for the duration of my project) -They should have a more robust "kit" if you're going to call it a kit - although at least the instructions that come with it start to point you in the right direction. Here is what I ended up doing for my process (again, not a professional, but summarized what I learned from searching on the internet and not necessarily from the kit instructions): 1. Removed doors, drawers and hardware (because we were replacing), labeled all hinges and doors to ensure they would go back in the exact same spot as I read that if they get switched around the doors and drawers might not fit back together very well based on previous wear and tear 2. Cleaned with TSP substitute - used a nylon brush - BE THOROUGH WITH THIS PROCESS!!! I read the paint will crack if not cleaned thoroughly enough 3. Cleaned off excess TSP substitute with water THEN windex (because I read windex would remove the TSP substitute residue, and I didn't want to mess with any possible mistakes or misses) 4. Used deglosser to remove old finish (says it's a liquid sander - I proceeded to Step 5) 5. Sanded with 320 grit sandpaper 6. Vacuumed off sanding dust, used tack cloth to ensure all dust was removed 7. Taped off walls/appliances once everything was cleaned 8. Used wood filler to fill old hardware holes because we were replacing knobs with pulls - did this TWICE if the filler shrunk too much and left an indent in the filled space 9. Spackled the front of the doors and drawers to fill in the wood grain (you can't clean after this point in the painting project because, as I understand, the water will pull the spackle out) 10. Used 320 grit sandpaper to sand down excess spackle 11. Marked and drilled new holes for hardware (for drawers, drilled on face, then reinstalled on drawers and drilled all the way through, then removed again for painting - extra step, but just what we ended up doing!) 12. Sanded any areas we might have missed, vacuumed with soft attachment, used tack cloth to remove remaining dust 13. Primed twice, lightly sanded, vacuumed and tack clothed between each coat (even though the paint said there was a primer in it, I was being extra thorough) 14. Painted 2-3 coats, lightly sanded, vacuumed and tack clothed between each coat (to ensure a smooth finish) 15. Waited 12-24 hours before reinstalling doors and drawers ...andddddd continue to keep telling everyone to be careful around the new cabinets because holy-moly-that-was-a-lot-of-work-and-please-don't-ruin-it :) Ultimately, we are SO glad we did it!!! It really freshens everything up and it's a fun project that reminds you daily that all of your hard work paid off! As long as you do the right prep!
