Convenient and easy to use
This is so much better than my old full size Actron. That still works, but I have to plug and unplug it a ton of times before it will actually boot. I mean try for minutes or half an hour until I get it just right. Also, that unit is slow and limited in what it shows since it is maybe 10 years old. I never carried that one in my car, but I can do that with this. My recent code popped up while about an hour drive away from home. I stopped the car and checked if anything seemed wrong and since the car was running fine, I just decided to keep driving home. It turned out that the problem wasn't one that was made worse by driving, so I got lucky, but if I had known what it was at that time, I wouldn't have had to worry the whole way back. I used this BAFX model in a 1998 BMW 323is and it worked fine. I was able to read the code in several different free apps I tried and resetting the code took maybe a second. Amazingly fast. I left it plugged in and read some info in real time with the engine running to see if I could figure out the problem. It worked fine, though I need to actually drive for a while to let things heat up in order to get accurate information for the code I have. So here's my one ding against this. It is a little long. My odbii port is vertical and just to the left and in front of the clutch pedal. This hangs down so that I almost touch it with my shoe while resting on the clutch. See picture. If I actually drive with it, I will definitely hit it with my foot and probably break it. While it looks like I can move my foot back without hitting it, the pedal is actually not very wide (maybe slightly wider than this unit) and my shoe ends up slightly behind the edge in normal position. So I'm going to keep this and buy a small, cheaper one and use that one for road testing. And always have that one in the car. This will be the one I use at home.
