Pleasantly Surprised
My 12 year old lab has recently started having balance/stability and traction issues, primarily with her back legs. I had originally looked at adhesive pads but was not impressed with the reviews. After some searching, I found these socks. Although I was skeptical about her tolerating socks (she hates it when you touch her feet much less putting anything on them), I figured I would give them a try. The price also helped with my decision.
After measuring her paws, I bought her the medium, grey socks. She has been wearing them about two weeks. She did have the look of confusion on her face for the first five minutes after I put them on her. Once she figured out she could walk in them, she seemed fine. They have helped her when she tries to stand up on our hardwood floors (although we have some carpet and rugs all over, she lays on the hardwood floors). While they have not completely solved her problems, they have helped considerably.
Because her issues are with her back legs, I am using two socks at a time. I have washed them in warm water using a mesh bag and laid them on top of the dryer to air dry. Also, to keep them clean and have the traction on the bottom last, I take them off of her when I take her outside. It can be a bit of a pain, but it is worth the effort. The alternative is watching her back legs go out from under her.
The reason I am giving them four stars instead of five is because I have to keep pulling them up. I am not sure if it is because she moves around a lot or because I take them off before I take her outside (so they stretch) or that is just how they are. Because she still trips over her back feet, I do occasionally find one of her socks on the floor. That being said, this has been one of my better investments for her.
