Another book about Trump...
This political season, I’ve begun rating Donald Trump books by how dirty I feel after finishing them. The more personal the book is, the more awful it makes me feel. High falutin’ books concerned with policy are okay - if not a little boring - but those books that are down and dirty with all sorts of personal revaluations about Trump and his crew are depressing. However, I enjoy the depressing books far more than the boring ones. The newest of the lot - sure to be supplanted by the books coming out next Tuesday and every week, ad infintum - is “Tower of Lies”, by Barbara Res. She was the Trump’s manager of construction for many of his most famous building, like The Plaza Hotel and Trump Tower. Beginning working with Trump in the late 1970’s to mid-1990’s, Res’s job included sparring with Trump about problem building details, particularly those which were exacerbated by Trump’s ingrained cheapness and inattention to details. Res writes about Trump and his family in matters of business, which is where she knew him and is best versed in the real Donald Trump. What she writes about a man who has been disgusting to others for his total business life only seems to echo what we’ve known for years about Donald Trump. Barbara Res’s book is a good look at the Trump we know. No surprises; the Trump nastiness to most women is explored in the context of his businesses. Dirty...
