I love this trap! The neighbors had an urban farm in their backyard with chickens then moved away and the new renters have dogs so all the rats eating the chicken feed just moved into to my yard. I have caught 15 rats and mice in the last few days without killing any squirrels or birds in the process. Corn and sunflower seed bird food works best for bait because it doesn't attract ants like peanut butter does. Put the seeds all the way to the front of the trap and a few leading out the door. They have to step on the trip lever to get to the seeds at the front of the trap. I can then release the prisoners in the nearby woods by flipping over the trap and pushing it forward against the door bar and the door will open. Update, I eventually caught a squirrel who was able to tear the screen on the door apart so the trap is unusable now.
