Before You Get up in Arms About the Cancer Warning Do Your Research
I take these and buy them directly from Love Wellness. With that being said I want to address the concerns everyone has with the cancer warning because it doesn't seem like anyone did adequate research before going into outrage mode about it. Firstly Prop 65 is a California law that requires a list be published of chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity. There are over 900 chemicals on the list and its updated yearly. Chemicals are added to the list several ways, one of them being if an "authoritative body" (EPA, IARC, NTP, etc) considers it to cause cancer in humans or lab animals. Not all of the chemicals on the list are known to cause cancer in humans or have been proven to actually cause cancer in humans and no distinction is made either. If a product sold in California or a business exposes the public to any of the chemicals on the list they are required to put a warning on the product or somewhere visible for the public to see. Most businesses put the warning on their products even if its also being sold outside of California because its more cost effective. Also, exposure has to be at a level that California believes may cause risk and this level is usually stricter then standards already set by authoritative bodies such as the EPA for safe exposure levels. With all this being said I looked at the ingredients to see which ones could possibly have gotten flagged. Love Wellness' website claims they are not sure because trace amounts of certain heavy metals are naturally occurring in a lot of their natural ingredients and are also on this list so they are required to print the warning. But my guess is the chromium. Chromium picolinate has been shown in studies to cause issues with the overies of hamsters however it is safe in human beings however that still would flag the ingredient for addition to the list and trigger the need for a warning. Also, chromium in high doses over a prolonged period of time can also be harmful but I found through my research that you can more than likely consume 1000 mcg of chromium for up to 6 months with no issue. There is only 35 mcg per dose in this product, but once again I'm guessing that chromium is the issues here and im not a scientist or a doctor so please don't take what I've said as gospel. All I'm trying to do is provide the information that some of these other reviewers should have provided instead of getting all knee-jerk at a label. Thats how you make informed decisions. You may still decide not to buy this and thats completely your choice. Chromium is known to cause side effects for people with liver and kidney disease, if your one of those people this product might not be for you, but once again do your research also you should really talk to your doctor before you start taking any kind of supplement even if you're relatively healthy. Anyways research research research. Update 1/2/21: Wanted to come back and further drive home my point. I received a card in a set of bras I ordered (see picture) and low and behold there's the Prop 65 Warning. Its not limited to things you ingest. Do I believe my bras are going to give me cancer? Heck no. Am I going to return my items or write a scathing review on the brands website up in arms about the warning? Again, heck no because I'm informed enough to know why the warning is there and to decide for myself that this isn't that big of a deal.
