Delivery took about 9 days and the plants looked good on delivery. They were just slightly damp and I received exactly 20. Although the temps that night were expected to be close to freezing (36 degrees actually), I decided to plant anyway and cover them with black plastic. Of the 20 plants, 19 greened up in 48 hours or less, the last still looked ok and is starting to show more life after a week. All 20 plants look good and healthy. These will be great in several weeks and I know my daughters will love coming out to pick them. Keep in mind, with bare root strawberries, you should soak them in lukewarm water for at least 20 minutes before planting to break their dormancy. You also should not plant if a freeze is expected as that can kill them (if there is a freeze, wait or take extra precautions like I did and cover your plants) Here are some pictures. Please let me know if this was helpful and if you'd like to see more pictures of their progress. (These first 4 pictures were taken 3/24/17, about 1 week after delivery and planting)
(UPDATE: 4/25/2017)
We went out of town 4/21/2017. A couple plants had berries turning pink and I knew 1 berry would be ready while we were out of town. When we got back Sunday afternoon, me and the 3 yo went out to pick and we found about 5 ripe strawberries. The 1 I knew would be ready was picked at/eaten by something but we enjoyed looking for and picking the others. I went out again today and found 2 more ripe berries which I just picked and ate myself. Most of the berries have been small; nickle sized with a few bigger.
So, 5 weeks after planting, I had a couple ripe strawberries. All plants are healthy. about half have produced runner which I clipped off (I will allow some runner next spring to propagate but you normally want to clip runners so the plant spends its energy on the berries.)
I will update again and add a few pictures when the plants are producing a bit more.
