Almost As Good As The Trail Glove 2
First off Amazon asked if it provides good arch support. I answered no. Read the end of my review for an explanation. Review: I first ordered a size 10, the same size as the Merrell Trail Glove 2 ( I own 6 pair of that model and love the fit). I run in the Trail Gove 2 on the street, semi-paved roads and treadmill. I wear the Trail Glove 2 as a walking shoe and an all-day work shoe too. I have previously purchased the Vapor Glove for my wife for her indoor exercise on mats and floor doing weights and kick-boxing. I finally broke down and got myself some for running, walking, standing and indoor exercise. What a disappointment when the same size I wear in all six pair of Trail Glove 2 turned out to be huge clown shoes in the Vapor Glove. I understand they are supposed to be roomy in the toe box to let the toes splay out when running but this just went beyond roomy and the length was very noticeably longer. I then got a size 9.5 and the fit was much more of what I expected. Still a little more roomy than the Trail Glove 2 size 10 as far as width but the length of the Vapor Glove size 9.5 seemed the same as the Trail Glove size 10 What a great shoe though for everyday wear. I have not yet run indoor or outdoor in this shoe and don’t know if I ever will because I am so in awe with the Trail Glove 2 even after all this time. Merrell is said to be scaling back their minimalistic shoes and zero drop shoes, at least according to a website that I found when I was reading on the subject of running. I may buy more before they discontinue this in my size. Caution: If you plan to use this shoe for running and you are not used to running in minimalistic shoes I would recommend short runs at first or easing into this shoe. I would recommend building any muscles that have been weakened by stiff running shoes first. I started by first running in Adidas ClimaCool Aerate and Reebok RealFlex shoes before switching to Avia (yes Avia) Flex-Something or other (just a bunch of little foam squares for a sole with no plastic or metal plates or rods for motion control inside). From there I switched to the Trail Glove 2. Arch Support: Everyone thinks of arch support differently so I really don’t like the question. I have noticed most people confuse arch support with stability and motion control. Look up “pronation shoes” on google for more information. Most people that want arch support really mean they want “motion control” or “stability” shoes. Those types of shoes force the feet to roll outward when running, walking and standing. The majority of people have feet the roll inward naturally and feel only the insides of their feet are bearing the weight and pressure. This has nothing to do with arch support. This shoes is completely flat and has no arch bump or motion control of any kind. A great minimalistic glove like shoe.
