MDF1006 - Waterbase Pillow Standard, 20 x 28...
This is the third MedFlow water based pillow that I've had. I bought the first one in the mid-nineties when they were fairly new and the chiropractor I had at the time recommended it. I've been so sold on these pillows since that first one that this one I just purchased is my third. The first two each lasted approximately 10 years. And I haven’t used any other pillow since. It is the only pillow that I've had that allows me a good night’s sleep without waking up in the morning with neck or shoulder pain. Now with that said if you've never had a water based pillow before and you’re thinking of trying one let me give you some insight from experience. If you’re someone who wants to just pull the pillow out of the box, fill it with water and expect to sleep like a baby the first night you could find yourself disappointed. You may need some patience with this pillow if you don’t get a good night’s sleep the first night. You also may need some attention to detail. First you need to understand that it may take a few night of adjusting the water in the pillow to get it to the point that it is comfortable for you. If you don’t have the patience then you’ll end up frustrated and disappointed that you spent money on it. Second, if you find you do need to adjust the pillow you may want to pay attention to how much water you add or remove from the pillow when you’re adjusting it. As little as an ounce of water added or removed will significantly change how the pillow feels, at least that is what I've found over the years of having them. You have to be willing to play with to get it just right. The good news is once you reach that point you won’t have to do anything more. I've had people ask about the water inside and mold and what have you. I just emptied my second pillow before throwing it out. There was not one sign of mold or any smell to the water when I emptied it and the pillow was as I stated earlier about 10 years old. Unlike one reviewer's recommendation to use a little bleach, I have never added anything to the water and the water always comes out as clean as was the day I added it. Actually, I would hesitate to add anything additional to the water whereas it may damage the inside water chamber over time and potentially reduce the life of the pillow but that is just my opinion. Both my first and second Mediflow pillows lasted 10 years of every night use and were only replaced due to leaks they developed as a result of age. I just received my third pillow yesterday and slept on it for the first night last night. The quality of these pillows is still there and once I filled it to where it was comfortable for me, I slept soundly and got up this morning without one ounce of neck or shoulder pain. I can’t recommend them enough to people providing they understand that sometimes a little patience provides a huge payback in feeling good in the morning when you get up. One other thing mentioned by other reviewers was that the pillow had a slight smell to it when it was removed from the box. The pillow I received had no noticeable smell. I filled it, put it on the bed and slept on it the first night without a problem. I'd without hesitation give this pillow more than 5 stars if I could! I hope this helps anyone whose considering purchasing one.
