Spray-on, Drink-beer. Green is gone, maybe other stuff will go too.
Wanting to avoid the hilarity of washing my siding (again) with my sadly underpowered electric power washer, and the expense of upgrading to a more powerful gas one, I decided to check out these spray-on and drink-beer solutions that have been showing up. I was skeptical seeing that most reviews of these type of products either have 1 star and should be banned from existence or 5 star and are the best invention mankind has ever created. So I saw my local big-box store had this one in stock and decided to give it a go for $40. The mix as you spray bottle was interesting (though I've had some bad experience with them on other products). But the 2000 sq ft coverage was the attractive part. Spraying on was straightforward. Attach hose, turn on water, turn on dial to dispense product and spray away. It worked well and I was able to reach the bottom of the gutters on the second floor and low roofs. High roofs above the second floor was not going to happen. For my application that was fine because all the trouble areas were the siding on the dark side of my house and a low roof. For coverage, I have no idea if I could cover 2000 sq ft. My fear from experience with other mix as you go products was that the product tended to run out shockingly fast and far before I was done. In this case, the product dispensed quite slowly and I believe I could have easily covered 90% of my house. But since only the dark side had issues, I went over those areas twice making sure to completely get every nook and cranny. Does it work? I know that almost all green tinged areas disappeared the same day. As for the darker stuff? We'll see. This is a long term product that supposedly works over weeks and even months. A couple of problems did pop up. First, the dial to dispense product (which also can stop the water) needs work. As you turn the dial, the hose tends to unscrew, leading to a bit of a mess. Second, make sure your bottle comes with the little tip that you can see at the end if the nozzle in the picture. The tip lets you have a wide fan spray when you are spraying up close. Mine didn't come with one. Not the end of the world, but a bit annoying. Overall, I'm happy so far. We'll see if it was really worth $40 in a little while. Update on October 24, 2018 Soooo, 6 months on and ... green tinge only just started showing back up on the shady deck. To be fair, there's been a ton of rain and humidity, and a container garden growing on it. Nothing at all has come back on any walls, and the very dark patch on the low roof had lightened by about 75%. To the ultimate question : worth the money? Oh yes. Spray on, drink beer. Perfect.
