Save money, go with area heating.
We bought 4 of these to provide area heating in our home. Let me back up for a second so that you can understand why. We bought a foreclosure in NC where temps can get down to 8°F during the Winter. The HVAC systems had been removed (or stolen) so we needed to have new systems installed. The company that did the work sized the upper unit correctly, but the lower unit is too small. They put in a 3.5 ton heat pump when they should have gone with a 5 ton. To add insult to injury, the heat strip (aux heat) is only 7.5kw but should have been double that. Heat pumps don't do so well when it's 8°F (or less) outside so your aux heat will kick in when the heat pump can't keep up. After receive $600 electric bills, we decided to look into space heating options to get us by when it is really cold. We tried several different heater combinations but most of the digital (and even analog) heaters were not very accurate which meant either rooms were too cold, or too warm. I did some research and found this little gem on Amazon. As one review noted, some digital heaters may not come back on, while others will, so make sure you buy a heater you know you can return if it does not work for you. I will provide pictures and an explanation of what has been working for us for the last 2 years. I also read another review where somebody mentioned the thermostat not staying in the outlet. IF this is the case for you I suggest replacing that outlet. Outlets become worn over time so if it can't hold the thermostat, replace it. I replaced all of the outlets in our home 6 years ago when we bought the property and haven't had any issues. The thermostats stay in nice and snug. On to my pictures. The first heater is a digital we had been using prior to finding out about this LUX thermostat. It has a terrible built in thermostat and does NOT work with these outlet thermostats. The unit will not come back on after shut off. The second heater is an infrared heater which does work with these thermostats -which is why the temp is set to 80, but in reality the outlet thermostat is at 70. The next heater is in our living room with an actual fireplace where we do burn wood, but when we go to sleep, the fire burns out and that heater takes over once temps drop below 70. The fourth heater is clearly not digital and one of my favorites because it has a 750 watt and 1500 watt setting. We use two of these heaters at 750 watts on a shared circuit between our bedroom and office. Our bedroom is 16ft by 14ft and the bathroom is 7ft by 14ft. The office next door is 12ft by 14ft. These heater have no problem keeping the rooms at 70 using just 750 watts each. Keep in mind that when running heaters at 1500 watts, you will not be able to add a second heater to that circuit or you will pop breakers (if you're lucky) or burn up wire in your home or worse. We went from a $600/mo electric bill down to $280 when it is really cold outside, so you can see why we use these heaters instead of the undersized HVAC system we have downstairs. These thermostats are very easy to use, configure and are very accurate. I have several different thermometers throughout the house to make sure the temps are comfortable for my family. I hope this review will find you well.
