How I calibrated this tv could more or less be used on any tv. Because I have my computer hooked up to my tv using HDMI I used the built in Windows 7 display calibration (Go to Control Panel, then Display, then on the left side click on Calibrate Color). After getting as far as I could with the built in Windows tool I used Disney WOW to tweak it further. Knowing what I do now I would buy either Disney WOW or Spears and Munsil and just follow the instructions. Take your time and plan on it taking an hour or two and don't be afraid to deviate a little and adjust it over and over again. I took the time and it came out great. Friends and family who have much much more expensive tv's regularly comment on how great mine looks. -Original review: I got a nearly identical model on sale at Sears (SE40FY19) and the TV is wonderful once it's been painstakingly calibrated. I don't know how the TV's differ exactly (if they do at all, which I doubt they do) so I thought I would post a detailed write up of how I calibrated the tv here in case it helps anyone else. To get the most out of this TV you're going to want to go into the hidden manufacturers menu and change some settings in there. You should be careful doing this because you can seriously mess up the TV and maybe even ruin it completely. If you're not comfortable doing this, then don't do it. To access the manufacturer's hidden menu hit the menu button on the remote and enter 0000. This will bring up the hidden menu where you can have real control over the TV. Once in the menu we want to select "Others" then "Curve Setting" then "Video Curve Setting". In this menu we can alter the range of values possible on the TV's on screen display (osd) menu (the regular menu when you hit the menu setting on the remote). The reason we want to change these settings is because when you're trying to calibrate the tv's image in the menu you don't have fine control, that is, there's only a small range that's useful when calibrating and by default going from Brightness 50 to 51 can be a big change. We can minimize that to have finer control over that change. We want to change "Contrast" and "Brightness" to these values: OSD_0 to 96, OSD_25 to 112, OSD_50 to 128, OSD_75 to 144, OSD_100 to 160. For "Color" we ant to change the OSD values (0, 24, 50, 75, 100) to 32, 64, 96, 128, 160. Change "Sharpness" values to 5, 10, 15, 20, 25. When you're all done select "Save to EEPROM" on the bottom then hit menu on the remote twice to get back to the "Others" menu. Okay, now we've got much finer control over the picture when we access the regular menu later on. Now we are going to fine control the color temperature settings. Select "Color Temp." next to "Color Mode" is where you'll select which preset color temp to change. I'll give you the values that work for me. Under "Normal" Gain Red is set to 128, Gain Green is set to 128, Gain Blue is set to 118. "Warm" I set to 128 for gain red, 123 for gain green, and 118 for gain blue. "Cool" I set to 128 gain red, 128 gain green, and 128 gain blue. I left the Offsets to 128 for all colors and color temps. To be honest I just use the normal color temp for everything. Once again select "Save to EEPROM" at the bottom. You're all set to completely exit out of the manufactures settings menu now by hitting menu until it goes away. Now we can actually change the settings in the menu. Picture: Contrast: 73 Brightness: 49 Color: 65 Sharpness: 50 Color Temp: Normal Blue Screen: Off Setup: Zoom Mode: Just Scan Noise Reduction: Off DLC: Off I have my TV hooked up my computer and only really use HDMI. Depending on the kind of source you're using these setting may not work for you. If you feel you've really messed something up and want to reset the TV completely go into the manufacturers hidden menu and just select "Factory Reset" I don't use the TV's speakers at all but given the information here you could fine tune the audio settings the same way we did with the picture settings.
