or anything nice. Considering they cost around $9 for the pair
Ordered this pair of keyless remotes for a 2001 escape. I only have 1 original key for my truck, and its getting a bit worn. Unfortunately to make a copy of the transponder key i would either need 2 original keys or pay a hefty fee to a ford dealer for a cut/re-program. So in hopes of extending the life of my solo key, i ordered the remotes so that i would only need the key for ignition, and remotes for door action.
I can say, that i had both remotes programmed in about 30 seconds, and both worked immediately. I cant speak as to the longevity of the remotes, they are standard little plastic things. Not rubbery, or anything nice. Considering they cost around $9 for the pair, i dont think i could care less. For now, these are awesome and if i have to replace them in 6 months, big deal.
I'm rating 4 stars simply because of the basic materials used. It would have been great to get some rubbery waterproofy type covering instead of the hard plastic, but functionality, it does what it says.
To program my 2001 ford,
1) i put my key in the ignition
2) turned to ACCESSORY (usually 1 click forward with the key, DO NOT START YOUR CAR)
3) turned the car OFF with the key
4) repeat 7 more times, on the 8th time, do not turn the car off.. leave it in accessory mode
4a) to clarify... on/off on/off on/off on/off on/off on/off on/off ON....... (all this was done in about 10 seconds, very quickly, i dont know if there is some sort of timeout for this, so just do it rapidly, but dont break your key in the ignition...)
5) your car locks will cycle when you turn the car to accessory on the 8th time.
6) when you hear the locks cycle, press any button on your remote. if you have 2 remotes, press a button on one, then a button on the other.
7) PAYDIRT.
thats it. you now have working remotes for you car for $9.
