It works. I got this because I was fostering a litter of puppies who kept urinating on the bed (I know, I shouldn't have brought them on.. But honestly you should've seen how they begged to cuddle on the bed). I wanted to protect my mattress. This was easy to put on and has deep pockets that easily fit over a King bed with a pillow top mattress. In the photos attached, I spilled a large cup of water on my bed (accidentally!). It was soaked up by this mattress protector and my mattress was TOTALLY dry. Not even slightly moist. I also felt the bottom of the mattress pad (the side that lays against the mattress itself) and it was dry as well. This material is well made in that it absorbs on top, but protects on bottom to ensure moisture does not leak through. It's impressive, really.
