First, let me start by saying that I am a 60 year old woman. It took me awhile to decide on these containers... I wanted two, one for the the right side of the cabinet, (under our sink) and one for the left. (trash and recyclables) The bar hook fit, but not real well, and the cabinet door wouldn't close completely. So I chose to mount it. It was so easy, I didn't even have to read the directions!! All you have to do it remove the hook from the frame, using a phillips screwdriver, or small power driver. Then you are left with the frame, and all you have to do it attach it, line it up just right, and screw it in! You do have to be careful if you have thin cupboards, so as not to have your screw come out the front. I took a piece of the cardboard box it comes in, and slid that under the frame, just to be sure. We have chose not to use the lids. They really are loaded with class, but in order to lift the lid to throw trash out, the door has to be wide open. As far as the liners, we couldn't be happier!! Make sure to line just the trash container. They are too snug when you try to line the container AND the rim like I did! (Duh!!) I purchased a big box of grocery liners from a local retailer, and I guess I'll have to use them for packing or rummage sales, because the liners the company offers are fantastic!! I LOVE that they fit tight. No chance of missing your mark and landing your trash on the floor. Pretty bad when a 60 year old woman is excited about new trash containers, LOL!! Oh... and they don't seem 'too small' at all to me. They fit the door nicely, and if you mount them instead of hanging them, you can raise them up higher. I am very pleased.
