It is evident that the author has an extensive knowledge base which is enhanced by his great portrayal of historical characters. It is a great read for those interested in military history. There are sections with brief, intense histories of military conflict, which would be tedious if you are not stimulated by the bigger picture of European history or inclined to research the details. I thoroughly enjoyed the amazing feats of the main character, however fictionalized they might be.
