I love this stuff!
I did a TON of research on these before I bought a set, as I had seen many bad reviews that seemed due to a lack of knowledge of how to apply, what to expect, etc. I know there are a ton of listings for these available, but I will set out my steps to success with these lip tints. 1. Exfoliate! I cannot stress enough how important this step is! Take a medium-soft toothbrush, wet it, and gently scrub every inch of your lips to get as much dead skin off. This will make the end color more even and let your lips take more of the tint. 2. After scrubbing, gently dry your lips and apply the smallest amount of plain lip balm to them. I use Chapstick Moisturizer/Original(in the blue tube) This will both re-hydrate your lips a bit after scrubbing them, but make you more comfortable in the drying step. 3. Apply! Now, these come in a funny little squeeze tube and it is kinda strange to apply this gooey stuff to your lips, so brace yourself, its not like anything else you have put on your lips before. I found that letting gravity do most of the work and only squeezing a tiny bit was pretty effective for the bottom lip. For the top, make sure the tube is facing down, apply a hint of pressure, then invert to apply. Since the goo is pretty slippy slidey it will fall to the back of the tube and you will have to squeeze forever to force some out of the tip if you don't get it trapped at the end first. Don't get super crazy about making a crisp line, it won't really matter to the end result. Just try to cover all of your lip with a medium-thick coating, paying attention to your cupids bow as the only place to try and be really neat. Don't apply it too far into your mouth of you can help it, it takes a bit strange and could stain your gums if you left it there. *Word of warning, it does smell kinda strongly. It's not by any means a bad smell(at least not to me) It was kinda sweet and a little chemically in the same way that regular lipstick smells kinda chemically-powdery. But it is strong and having it on your lips wafting up your nose for 10 min can get a bit much, so be warned if you are sensitive to smells and make sure you have a fan going or something to help you out* 4. Now the hard part, letting it sit, undisturbed for AT LEAST 10 min! I didn't let my first try sit long enough at all and it did not stain or peel like it is supposed to. I found the best results at the 15-20 min mark, and if you are using the lighter colors or want to make sure it will last as long as possible I would recommend the full 20. In a lot of the videos I watched in my research phase the girls would apply it and then talk the whole time it was drying. I don't know what kind of witch magic this was, but I have found it is best to apply and then either leave your mouth open so your lips are not touching or carefully close your mouth and then DO NOT MOVE. I tried opening and closing your mouth and ended up having to remove and start over since my top and bottom lip stuck together and pulled each other off in different areas. If you close your mouth for drying, wait a little extra time, since where your lips are touching will take a bit longer to set. Just get comfortable and then chill out for a while. Watch some tv, read a book, surf the web. Just be careful of anything that would make you emote strongly with your mouth ;-) 5. Peel and clean! Once your time is up, gently tap your lips with your fingers to make sure it seems dry and shiny-skin-like. Now that it is dry, you can peel it off. Mouth open, just drag a fingernail over the corner of a lip and get it started. Slowly peel out and across your lip and repeat on the other lip. If you closed your mouth, then just pucker a bit and open your mouth to peel it from one lip and hand peel the rest off. There may be small strips/patches left that can be peeled off if your coat was a little thin or patchy, but a soft wet cloth or paper towel will get those off no problem too. Using a wet cloth to wipe off your lips will also prevent the tiny bit of transfer that can happen when you first reveal your newly tinted lips, so it is a good step to remember. 6. Lastly, apply some lip balm in earnest now! Don't make the mistake of thinking you can't put anything else on with these tints, you will just end up with unhappy lips. Slick on balm whenever you feel like it is needed, I think it actually helps the color last longer and prevents cracking. I have seen some people add colored glosses over the tint and the look is great, if you like lip gloss. I have included pictures of my application of the Virgin Red color, starting with my natural lip color, waiting for it to dry, the color after peeling and cleaning, and the morning after(I applied this color at around 7pm since I was playing around and took the morning after pic at around 9am) Hope this helps!
