It works - one simply needs to practice with it.
For me and my needs this works well. I have read other reviews from previous purchasers whom have complained about one thing or another in relation to this coffee pot. The complaint most mentioned was how flimsy the lid clamp attachment was. I agree it is "flimsy". My solution to that was to remove the clamp altogether and use my HAND to hold the lid on the pot while pouring. Oh, and if it gets to hot to hold there are ways to aid the user. They're called hot pads. I suggest those of you whom read this invest in a few sets if you haven't already.

Coffee prep the old fashioned way: I use fresh, cold water. Fill the pot to just below the bottom of the spout. Place it on a stove top, open fire or whatever heat source you're using. Bring the water to a boil. Add 1/3rd cup (or whatever amount you like - a bit of experimenting may be needed until you find the flavor you're looking for) of COARSE ground coffee or PERCOLATOR grind to the boiling water. Allow the coffee to reach a second boil and let boil for 3 to 5 minutes. Doing this removes the acid that causes stomach upset. Remove from heat and wait about one or two more minutes and then add about 6 oz.of cold water - take care to pour a bit down the pout to wash some of the grounds clear from there. The cold water will cause the grounds to settle to the bottom of the pot. Wait about another minute and you're ready to have coffee. Pour it in to your favorite coffee cup and enjoy. There may be a few grounds in the bottom of each cup but for ME - I don't mind it.
