New Max upgrade
This very early review is from the perspective of a former ES3 owner. I had actually purchased 2 ES3’s from Costco and had problems with both of them nearly right out of the box. Nonetheless, I pre-ordered the Max directly from Segway (wasn’t available on Amazon at that time). My early impression is that this rides much better and feels more stable than other scooters I have tried. This is likely due in large to the larger air-filled tires and larger frame. Ironically, these features are also the biggest drawback of the model. Weight is up significantly and it will not fit in my trunk even if I fold down the rear seats of my sedan. This was not an issue with the ES3. I can put it in my backseat, but this is not an ideal solution as I like to leave the scooter in my car to go exploring in new areas. I would lose the extra passenger room and also be a target for having my car window smashed. The added range of the scooter is a nice feature, but how often would you really go on a long enough ride to be able to take advantage of the feature? Overall, the ride quality and breaking is far superior to the other scooters. For me, this outweighs the bulk and extra weight. My friend who I ride with still has the ES3. He is not going to upgrade, as he prefers the portability of the smaller model. If you don’t plan to haul around your scooter or have a larger SUV or sedan with a huge trunk (thought mine was decent in new Genesis G70), the improvements and ride on the Max is worth the upgrade.
