Great shades and they blend like a dream.
My experience with water soluble pencils is limited. I actually haven't been coloring long so my experience with any colored pencils is limited, but the Hero 72 Colored Pencils blend like a dream. I have no idea how the color/pencils are supposed to behave when water is added, but I actually gave it a try. It seemed to lighten my colors and smooth them out. Something I learned, you can't really add more color once you've used water.
The pencils have color coding at the bottom that don't match the pencil color very well, but they are numbered so you can keep track of the colors you've used. The tin case actually has the numbers listed and the matching color names. One thing I noticed is they have four blue colors that look to be the exact same color, or so close they may as well be. Other than those four, all the other colors are varying enough in shade to be different and useful. Another plus! The pencils are triangle shaped so they don't go rolling of the desk.
The set of pencils do come pre-sharpened. However, I don't know if they sharpened them with a machete or what! The pencils are overly sharpened, in my opinion, with more lead showing than wood. Because of this a couple of my leads broke because they didn't have enough support. It took up a good deal of pencil to sharpen them back up. I'm actually surprised I only lost two leads.
This set does include a few shades I didn't have before, and I'm super stoked to have now. The main one being the Peach color. That's the closest I have to a matching skin tone shade. Even with the few faults listed, these pencils are great. I would repurchase this set.
I've included a picture I colored using these pencils. I tried the water effect on the dress portion. The eyelashes were colored with a gel pen, not these pencils. I've also included a picture of my color chart for this set.
