Was so confused by the reviews that I bought the red 68881 model in a nearby store (for easier return) instead of ordering online. Wanted to make sure it really doesn't need rocksalt + produces real ice cream, not just milk shakes. This model definitely does not need rock salt + ice. The machine works perfectly! Put the freezer bowl in the deep freezer overnight, then tried the easy vanilla ice cream recipe from the booklet, substituting sugar with 0-calorie natural sweetener + adding cinnamon. After 30 min I had perfectly dense ice cream - not just soft ice cream. The container was still frozen by then. Scooped the ice cream directly into a glass (without additional freezing) - it stayed frozen + in shape even through the photo session. My kitchen is not very cold; I live in a warm area; my AC is set on 80°F. A little trick: I put the mixed ingredients in the deep freezer for 10 min before starting - might help to keep the container frozen longer. Only little negative: the motor is pretty loud - but you don't have to stay close to it while it's running...... It's great fun + very easy making your own ice cream with this machine!
