I missed a lot of the prerelease buzz on this film. I'm actually glad I did because the unexpected effect of having my socks blown off with this unrelenting juggernaut was wonderful.
The recent rash of more plausible, or at least more science-based, Sci-fi movies, has reached a new high with Interstellar.
The acting and the effects are top notch. The script is as concise as it can be. If there's one criticism I have it is that sometimes the acting script seems almost like a narration to what it happening out side the spaceship. Its hard to believe that a NASA veteran needs the concept of a black hole explained to him as he sits with a colleague within spitting distance of it, in the inky blackness of space. However, the positives greatly outweigh the negatives.
A special point should be made of the incredible soundtrack, which seems 2001-influenced and just as effective as the venerable old master. Hans Zimmer has produced a bombastic and tender score for Interstellar that uses a church-organ as its emotional heart. This works wonderfully well and is quite unusual.
For non-SCI-FI fans -- don't worry about being cajoled into watching this --- There is a lot to like for everybody!!!
