A little prep needed to achieve a better outcome
I bought this primarily because of the overall cost compared to name brand shrink plastic. The cost per sheet is much better in this case. However, since these sheets are clear and not "matte" or "textured" some markers don't really offer good enough coverage without being streaky even after shrinking. I used two types of markers, permanent sharpie and winsor and newton brush markers. So, a high quality and lower quality marker. Both didn't want to stick very well to the plastic or disperse well. Even with multiple "coats" of marker, the streakiness persisted. The blue charm in my photo was with Winsor and Newton brush markers, unsanded. The white cat charm in my photo was with prismacolor colored pencils, sanded. I learned that you can take a medium to high grain sandpaper and scuff the sheets to create a texture that is better suited for markers AND now the added benefit of being able to use colored pencils. Once it shrinks, the sandpaper scuffs are not at all visible (assuming you sanded in even, circular & up and down motions). You don't even need to sand long, 20-30 seconds for 1/4 a sheet and you'll already be able to see and feel a difference. Don't be fooled by the package instructions, in my oven at 330°F it took 30-50 seconds for very small charms to finish NOT the several minutes the instructions said. If you are having trouble with the pieces not staying completely flat, pull them out of the oven when they are done, and place them between two books and flatten them out while they are still warm. Complicated cuts with many details might not turn out as intended and may need a revision. If your charms are looking "unfinished" after baking, you can use Mod Podge Dimensional Magic, UV Resin or Epoxy Resin to coat the colored side to give it a nice, glossy finish. I hope this helps you make the best out of your shrink plastic!
