Twins, a giraffe and a Jetta = Win
Amazing carseats. I have twins and ordered two. The material is fantastic, soft and the twins seem comfortable. I researched new carseats a great deal before purchasing these. The safety ratings are fantastic, above all. My twins are very petite for their age and I could not imagine turning them forward facing at two. I am thrilled these seats will provide us with additional rear facing time for another 15 pounds. In addition, my husband is 6'5" and we have a Jetta. He could never put his seat back all the way with our infant seats and encouraged me to look for something that may provide him with a bit more room. While he cannot put his seat all the way back, he did gain one more "click" when pushing his seat back. He said it's a good improvement over what he had, so no complaints. Installation was a snap and I find it less dramatic to pull two toddlers out of their carseats since these provide more room.
Another point of interest, I could crawl in the backseat of the Jetta with the two infant carseats and sit in the middle of the seats and be buckled in. Mind you, I am 5'3", but this was possible when I had two screaming kids. I can still fit with these seats, but I have to remove the cup holders. The cup holders pull out really easy, are two pieces and the insert can be left in for a more narrow cup or bottle or taken out for a larger cup.
I am out of my mind with twin toddlers, and barely fit in a shower most days. If I took the time to write a review for these seats...you know I think they are fabulous.
In conclusion, if you have twins, a Jetta, a giraffe for a husband, and need a great carseat, this seat is a thumbs up in my book.
Edit: March 2015: The twins are now 26 months and much larger than when I originally posted this review. We still have them rear facing since I'm an over-protective, hovering mother and I refuse to turn them front facing just yet. It does need to happen within the next month or so, because they are getting taller and while not fussing, they are teetering on uncomfortable. I will update when we turn them around. We are also shopping for a new car, so the Jetta will not be our primary car and we will be switching the carseats to the new car. I'll update when we get a new car and tell everyone how they fit.
Now that the girls are larger (one is 30 pounds, 97% in height, the other is 25 pounds, 50% in height - the other twin is FINE, they are FRATERNAL (twin parents will understand this)) I do find it a little harder to get them in and out of the car. The sides of the carseat are high, but I am really ok with this since I believe this is much safer in the event of a side impact. When I'm not rushed and in my garage, I don't notice that it's harder to get the kids in and out. It's when I'm in a parking lot with two kids, a cart full of bags, my purse, a stressed out look on my face and some weirdo is following me to ask me if "they are twins." I'm in a hurry to put each kid in the car, not hit the car next to me with my door and fend the weirdo off by telling them I actually "have triplets and if they could help me find the other one that running around the parking lot that would really help me a lot."
I always put the kids in the car first to make sure they are safe, and not strap them in, load my trunk, then come back and strap them in once I'm situated and weirdos are gone. There is plenty of room for them to flip around on their knees in the seat, which is hilarious as a toddler. Again, the sides of the seat are high and they can't actually get out of the seat, just turn around. I find it a little more difficult to reach in and flip them around since they are bigger and the sides of the carseat are higher. However, it's really easy to strap them in and get them situated once they cooperate and stop trying to help me buckle them in.
A Jetta is a smaller car, with smaller door openings and the carseats fit great and honestly, the kids fit even better in the carseat now they are bigger. I feel like that have a nice firm fit in the seat and I'm really happy with how safe they are.
Still five stars, still really happy. Will update again soon.
