Excellent Product For This Price
I purchased one of these in red for my Harley-Davidson Switchback. The factory Harley Tour-Pak is a whopping $750 without any hardware or top rack at all, so at under $100, this box is a steal. The material is black ABS, similar to the Harley part and as advertised, this trunk comes with a very nice molded and upholstered backrest and a somewhat rough but functional steel top rack. It also comes with some generic mounting hardware which probably will not work for your application. The hinges are molded into the case and unlike the Harley Tour-Pak, this lid correctly hinges forward instead of to the side. That way if the latch is left open, the wind will help keep it closed for you. The trunk is extremely spacious and will hold two full-size helmets. I've packed the trunk with 30 pounds of gear and it carried this weight and bulk without any problems whatsoever. The lid has a nice seal around the edge, however there is a fair amount of flex to it, so it takes a little fussing to get it to line up and latch perfectly each time. The latch does have a key lock and it comes with two keys, but it will only deter honest thieves. It can probably be picked with a paperclip in under 5 minutes. It's cheap but shiny and functional. I expected it to break, but it's doing well and hanging in there. There is one cable which prevents the lid from falling too far forward when open. The mounting bottom and side plates are very general in nature and you can count on going to the hardware store or your local motorcycle shop to purchase a rack, nuts and bolts to make this a truly professional installation. On my Harley, I used factory detachable sideplates with a chrome luggage rack as a base to mount the trunk on. It works perfectly and it can be quickly detached from the bike when it's not needed. The cheap hardware it came with wouldn't work and I didn't expect it to. If you're looking for a simple bolt-on installation, look elsewhere and pay more. The shape, style and appearance of the trunk is pretty nice. It doesn't have a lot of gimmicky style lines and contours and doesn't have a lot of extra lighting, which is something I've never liked about the Tour-Pak. Simple and clean. The paint quality is pretty poor. If you have a solid black motorcycle, you'll be fine, but for my candy red color, the difference is there. The basic color matches pretty well, but the finish isn't as shiny or even as the Harley paint. I plan on painting mine later anyway so that was a non-issue. The reason I rate this trunk 4 stars, even though it has some obvious issues is the price is so incredibly cheap that you have to judge it based on the value for the money. If you're handy with tools and making projects like this work, it's an excellent product. But don't pay under $100 for a brand new, painted, full-size trunk with back rest and chrome top rack AND free shipping and then complain if something isn't perfect. It is what it is... It looks and works excellent for my Harley-Davidson.
