Be sure to clean the vents
I've had this Lasko heater for a few years now. This past month it started shutting off after a few minutes. I was just about to purchase a replacement when I decided to see if there was anything I could do to fix the problem. When I looked at the back of the heater, the vents were completely clogged! 10 minutes of cleaning later and the Lasko runs good as new again! I actually took the heater apart and cleaned the vents from the inside out with a thorough washing in the sink. Two of the eight screws are triangle head to keep you from taking the unit apart, but if you use a small enough Philips head, you can easily unscrew them. After taking apart the heater, I understand why the heater kept shutting off. The temperature probe to monitor over-heating sits just in front of the vents. When the vents are clogged, the inside rapidly heats up because there is no air flow. 3 or 4 years later and the Lasko keeps on heating!
