Strong enough for heavy books
The cubes are impressively sturdy. Using three sets, I made a bookcase six cubes high and six across, and there is no sagging or bending in the metal or plastic supports. The plastic sheet on which the books rest deforms slightly, but not enough to see without removing the books and looking at the sheet—in other words, not enough to see from the front, facing it straight-on. This slight stretching is all that occurs even in cubes filled with large, dense textbooks. It's not as handsome as a wooden bookshelf, but it is lightweight, strong, and affordable. I would advise buyers to use the included mallet to ensure the squares are fully pressed into the plastic connectors and plastic supports. This will save you from trying to bang them in with your hand. When the squares are fully connected, the bookcase has clean, straight lines and does not appear flimsy or cheaply made.
