Technically Accurate Science-Fiction, BUT...
The author did a number of things well in “The Last Dance,” which is, as an aside, an adventure in space travel. My review will be short and sweet, since I am about to retire and am squeezing every minute to get a lot of loose ends cleaned up. All those activities may have negatively impacted my reading experience, so please bear that in my as you read my comments.
BLUSH FACTOR: The few eff-words are likely to annoy a few readers, but this trend appears to be something increasingly common in modern literature. Certainly, the number appearing though, is so small that, perhaps, the editor could have prevailed upon the writer to eliminate them. At any rate, for me, there was no lessening in my enjoyment. I’m just speaking out for those Christians who enjoy science-fiction that is clean.
WRITING & EDITING: The mechanics, ie, grammar, spelling, flow, etc. are good. The science fact aspect appears excellent and is thorough. For me, though, it is almost too thorough. Incidentally, in the pages before the story, we learn much of the science used as background for the story, and some terrific trivia about Buzz Aldrin. THIS I found to be profoundly interesting, but, I wonder if its presence could not have made it possible to lessen the details provided in the story.
Still, I DID enjoy the tale. It is better than many Sci-Fi novels, but could have been more stimulating or insprational.
BOTTOM LINE
Four stars out of five.
