Please before you believe all the bad ratings, read this! 1st of all, I did not buy these on Amazon....I bought them through another source. But I am just a regular Jane who was VERY FRUSTRATED because when I first got these, I could NOT make them work...And my silicone sheets did not come with instructions. So I thought I had been ripped off. However, I REALLY wanted them to work because I hate all the throw away trash. So I started watching youtube videos to try and figure out if it was me....and at first I only found bad reviews....but then slowly I started finding other regular peeps who actually had instructions and put out videos of their success. And you know what......
THEY DO WORK!!!!! BUT there IS A LEARNING CURVE. Once you get it...they are the bomb. I had other silicone lid things that never worked for me that well (one of the reasons, I tried these). But these work on metal, plastic, porcelain and glass and they are more size flexible than the silicone lids. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was for the learning curve that led to so many giving up.
So you may ask yourself, why would I bother to write a review on something that I did not buy here. Simple...Its for the planet. In my quest for understanding I had come across this page and read ALL the reviews and was starting to believe I had been suckered. But there were just a few positives that motivated me to continue on my quest to reduce refuse and I am hoping this review will encourage others to learn to use this product and reduce their refuse as well... So here is what I found
1. the bumpy side goes up It is NOT the "grippy" side. Place the smooth side in contact with your container.
2.Stretch your best sized piece tight around the OPPOSITE lip of the container and then PULL TOWARD YOU, stretching out and around the sides simultaneously. This is not always an easy maneuver. You will have to stretch it out pretty far and tight. I would not say it is hard to stretch, but its like a somewhat stiff rubber band. This is critical. I believe this stretching motion is what creates the static tension to keep it in place (just a guess on my part). There are Youtube videos that will successfully demonstrate this maneuver. You can even "burb" it by lifting up on corner, pushing down the middle and restretching.
3. Don't give up. It will work. Every one of the containers, round and square, that I had failed on before my self education, I successfully created a leakproof seal. Now I can not speak to microwave or freezer use....have not got that far, but I can say THESE DO WORK to cover all types of containers (that are rigid) for the refrigerator.
