I could not figure out why our Whirlpool washer smelled like wet dog hair. No one ever told me, I had to use a cleaning product monthly. There are a lot of negative about these cleaners on Amazon, and I tried other brands with no luck. This is a Proctor and Gamble product, I doubt anyone knows more about soap than they do. I also contacted Whirlpool. Whirlpool advises to use hot water, and fill the tank to the top with hot water from the faucet. This removes any resado from up under the top rim of the water tank. They also recommended using baking soda and bleach. I used both of them along with Tide Machine Cleaner. (Remember i had never cleaned it before and it smelled rancid). I ran the washer through six cycles resetting the timer and keeping the same water in the tank. The problem is gone, clothes smell fresh, and there is no strong oder in our Whirlpool washer. Now, we simply use the Tide once a month.
