Listen. I'm the kinda guy that research's the heck out of products before I buy. And when I read through all these so called "negative reviews" here and other places, I was expecting a unit that I'd have to wear ear plugs. Heck, even on many of the positive reviews people complained about how crazy noisy this was. Plus, chances were, it was going to take forever to cool down my room and the best I could probably hope for would be about 5-10 degree drop in temp., 15 if I was real lucky. And that's if I was sitting right in front of it! So, here's the deal. 1. This thing barely makes more noise than a med - large size fan. 2. Sleeping while it's on, not a problem. Unless of course your one of those people that need absolute silence. Personally, I normally always have a fan on anyway and I don't really notice much more noise. Maybe a little more but, honestly, barely. Sleeping with it on, easily done by normal sleep pattern people. 3. My room (12x15) dropped 5 degrees in about 15 minutes. 4. I have cool air blowing on me 5-7 feet away. One of the complaints was you basically had to be sitting right on it to feel cold air coming out. Question - Since this is rated for up to 200 Sq.ft., How far away from it could you possible be in the first place to "not" feel cool air? 5. I have a window unit, I hate it because I have to take it out during cold months (it's heavy) and that thing is easily 4-5 times louder then this LG unit. Bottom line, for a portable unit, this thing is awesome! You won't be disappointed. Unless of course you have unrealistic expectations or don't actually understand the limitations as well as the benefits of a portable AC unit. Worth every dime of the money!
