Professional Triathlete Approved - Really helps REDUCE leg swellings and helps you recover FASTER and feel FRESHER!!!
First off I am a Professional Triathlete who depends upon my body for a living. Just search my name and you will see what I have done over my career. In short, I have over 35+ career wins, 25+ Ironmans completed, and over 50+ 70.3 completed. I am Ironman champion and have gone 3:55 for a Half Ironman and 8:21 for Ironman.
As an aging Professional Triathlete, I am always looking for ways to speed up recovery from my hard training and racing. At first I was non-believer in recovery boots. This had to do with being a Pacemaker and Defibrillator rep, knowing way too much about the heart, and trying out the Normatec boots at various sporting events. The Normatec reps were always starting the pressure too high and I felt like my eyes were bulging out of their sockets.
Fast forward and I lived with another female professional triathlete who had a pair of Normatec boots - actually both the Pulse and MVP. I was able to come up with my own pressure protocol and I discovered that not only did I love the boots, but I was living in the boots. Specifically I was using the boots first thing in the morning to get the blood flowing and to loosen up the joints, tendons, and muscles. Then I was heavily using them at night, post workouts to flush the legs. They were great!!!!
After I moved and I no longer had the roommate with the Normatec boots I started researching alternatives because the Normatec boots were way way too expensive. Luckily I found Air Relax that are nearly 1/5 the price. I did a full comparison of the Air Relax vs Normatec Pulse system on my own website, but in short I will say that I love them both. Air Relax is the perfect alternative for those who either cannot afford the Normatec Pulse or who just want to save some $$$. I highly recommend recovery boots now and can't imagine a day without them.
Update 3/8/2017
I have had a chance to use these for over six months and they are still awesome!!! I have now tried over 10+ different boots and after my review of Air Relax vs Normatec I have received many questions and I have had the opportunity to reach out to both companies and get answers. One frequent question I get between the orange and dark model of Air Relax is the difference. The main difference is the boots on the dark model are of higher quality and won't show dirt like the orange ones can depending where you sit. In addition, you will notice there is an additional sleeve of material on the dark model. This actually tucks the hoses out of your way so they are both not visible, but it also provides a little more protection from accidental snags.
Update 3/15/2018
I thought I would update this after another year of use. I have since switched to Air Relax size 3 boots. Size 3 is a better size with more coverage for me. I noticed that Air Relax only seems to have size 2 available for sale on here. They also have Size 4 for people even larger, I am 5 feet 9 inches. I am still loving the boots and purchased a specifically designed travel case to help me travel with it and for better protection. Fwiw, Normatec has come down in price since this was initially written. They have also quietly updated their Pulse system with a better battery, longer 2-year warranty, and increased the durability of their boots further.
