Great Radio. Reviewed by someone who knows how to use it
I own this radio and it has worked flawlessly. There are soooooo many things wrong with the first review that it's obvious that it was written by a "Breaker Breaker good buddy" CB moron.
1.This is a 2 meter(VHF) and 70 Centimeter(UHF) dual band transceiver. The description clearly states that. CB's are the 11 meter band, and clearly if this person was even a decent CB operator he would know that.
2. This is a mobile radio designed in use in a vehicle, or even a camping trailer. Common sense would say 12V DC is needed to operate this radio. You can make it a base radio with a simple DC power supply available online or any electronic hobby shop or better year build it yourself.
3 and 4. You must be a licensed HAM radio operator transmit with this radio. You can listen/receive all you want. If you were a licensed operator you would know how to operate all the features. The Technician level license is very easy to acquire, it is a 35 question exam and will cost you $15.00. If you were licensed you would know what this radio was meant for.
5.Yeasu is a very well respected company in the Ham Radio industry, I have 4 of their radios. Stating that it is from a hostile nation with circuitry designed to fail is lunacy. Yaesu Vertex Standard is based in Cypress, CA. Yeasu is a worldwide company, founded in Tokyo Japan. So what Hostile country?
6. The unit has an auto power-off feature that keeps the unit from draining your car battery, the time is adjustable. If the FCC learns that you are broadcasting without a license you will be fined and have your equipment confiscated. The remainder of your statement is conspiracy theory non-sense.
Now my review:
This is a great radio. I use it as a base radio with a DC power supply. I use a J-pole style antenna mounted about 30 feet in the air and I can easily hit repeaters as far away as 60 miles only using 25 watts of power. It is an impressive little unit. The Microphone keypad makes it easy to select memory channels and dcs/ctcss tones. You won't be disappointed in this radio.
