Great envelopes for the system... with a tweak!
I was looking for a coupon organizer and came upon the Dave Ramsey money envelope system. I thought I’d try it. I got these envelopes because I liked the idea of them being Tyvek although I’m not crazy about the identification with words. I made a small adjustment in that instead of using actual cash, I also purchased a stack of play money. When I make my purchases using my credit cards (I’m realistic, practical, and I like my points), I just save the receipts and put them in the designated envelope bag (not the one provided, cute but small) and reconcile when I have a minute. I take out the fake money and record the expense in the provided budget sheet for each envelope category. Easy and fun. I also round to the nearest dollar to make things easier. I personally don’t need to be that exact and creates more work with coins involved. This system made me pause yesterday before I made an unnecessary purchase! And I made an effort to use a $10 coupon before expiration. Saved money already! I keep all my coupons in the bag also so I don’t stash them and forget them. To get more than one year of use if they hold up, I used a label maker. Hope this helps anyone looking at these envelopes or the system.
