like Bette, my mother was also a nurse
this movie hit home with me so hard. my mother died last year of alcoholism. we didnt know much about the disease. we just knew she was an alcoholic. the party has to end sometime, we just didnt expect it to happen so fast. when she started getting sick, she managed to convince us (her children) that it was somehow caused by steroids she had been taking for her IBS. as you can see, we didnt even know IBS was a calling card for alcoholism. like Bette, my mother was also a nurse. she had been in the practice since 1990 until literally a couple years ago. she had a fall in her house that caused her lots of pain. practically over night, her vision changed and she was unable to walk without the aid of a walker, cane or family. her face swelled up but she told me it was nothing to be worried about, that some of the meds she was taking were the cause. she became very frail and hurt all over. she had a hard time remembering simple things. she never went out and never invited people over because "the house was a mess." she let her house go into foreclosure and her car was repossessed. that is when she did the worst thing she could ever have possibly have done. she married an old time friend and fellow alcoholic. and 2 years later, the alcohol took her life but he is still alive. something else that is similar, in the beginning, when i was about 13 yrs old, i couldnt bare to be around her because of the alcohol so i went to live with my dad. this video was almost identical to what i just went through. my mother actually died of a hemorrhage, one of the many death possibilities of alcoholism mentioned in this movie. when i tell you we knew nothing, i literally mean just that. she had all of us fooled. she had us believing her illness was some freak one in a million situations that even the drs really knew nothing about. anything to keep us away from the truth. the only thing we could do was help her as much as she would allows us to. one time she even told me she had a physical done and her liver, lungs (she also was a chain smoker) and everything else was fine. the fact that she knew we still thought she drank too but didnt know the extent of it suited her just fine. we took her at her word because she was a nurse. i miss her so much. this video really touched me. i had to watch it twice because i just couldnt believe all the lies my mother told to cover up her condition. this movie revealed the truth and its so shocking that i have to find out like this. i cried through most of it but i am so glad i finally have some closure even if its in the form of a movie. thank you amazon. sorry this is such a long comment
