I've used the regular rapid egg cooker with the black base for a number of years and got tired of the shrill beep and having to run to turn off the cooker so it wouldn't scare my kids more than it already did. Plus it was old and harder to clean. In looking for a new egg cooker, this elite cuisine cooker caught by attention because it has an automatic shut-off function plus it does not make noise when the eggs are done cooking. As I was reading other reviews, it seemed that only this cooker (the elite cooker, stainless steel bottom) not the black or colored bottom cookers has those features. I bought this elite cooker and tried it this morning. I made poached eggs and they turned out well but the plus was there was no shrill beep (no noise at all when they were done) and the on/off switch automatically shut off when the eggs were done cooking. I had to look at it to see if they were done. Perfect! Now I can make my eggs while the kids are still sleeping & not have to worry about waking them up!
