Works well, nice features.
I purchased this charger in December 2015 and received version 2.2 which I understand is the most current at the time of writing. This is the same charger as the BT-C2000, but that one includes adapters for C/D batteries. Prior to writing this review I have cycled over 15 sets of four batteries through various modes. This is an unsolicited review. The charger comes with an AC adapter and manual consisting of just a single sheet with small print on two sides. The AC adapter I received outputs 12V 1A and can operate from an input voltage of 100-240VAC. The instructions are fairly easy to understand for those familiar with advanced chargers and/or the basics of batteries and electronics. Those that don't know a watt from a milliohm will not fully grasp the instructions or the capabilities of this, or most any advanced charger. Using the charger however in it's most basic mode doesn't require any reading or understanding, just put the batteries in and wait until the display says "Full". The controls are not difficult, but a quick read of the manual is going to make things a lot easier instead of trying to wing it. The charger defaults to a basic 400ma charge which should be suitable for AAA or AA batteries, charging stops as determined by -dV method (with an over temp fail safe). The outer slot current can be set from 200-1400mA, the inner slots 200-1000mA, each being individually adjustable in 200ma increments. The Discharge mode discharges to 0.9v then stops and displays the mAh that the battery produced. The Discharge-Refresh mode discharges/charges 3 times and saves the last battery capacity (discharge mAh) for display. The Charge-Test charges/discharges/charges and displays the battery capacity (discharge mAh). Quick Test displays the internal resistance in milliohms, but is only accurate for AA and AAA batteries, not when using the C/D adapter. Many of the issues reported on previous versions of this charger seem to have been addressed. I did not experience any overheating, the bottom of the charger has rubber feet to elevate it slightly and keep it stable, and the batteries do not seem to be overly tight when inserting them into the charger leaving the negative battery terminal undamaged. There is always room for improvement and this is no exception. Changing the current once the cycle has started requires more than just pressing the current button, you have to reset the mode again by cycling through them all with the mode button then you can change the current, it would be nice to be able to change the current mid-cycle, but it's a quirk I can live with. A slot button for each slot would be nicer than having to cycle through them, I'm sure it was a cost issue for a feature that is only occasionally used. In the modes that are more complicated, such as Charge-Test or Discharge-Refresh, it's not clear where the charger is at in the cycle. Going through the display parameters you can at least tell if it's in charge or discharge, but not which pass in the case of Discharge Refresh. It would be nice to able to tell at a glance what it's doing without having to press any buttons. It would also be nice if the accumulated mAh is not cleared when a battery is removed, but rather when a new battery is inserted. These are all user interface issues that don't affect the primary job of what needs to be done. Overall I'm quite pleased and hope I get many years of service from the Opus BT-C2400. I'll try to answer any questions left in the comments. Let me know if this review was helpful by clicking Yes below.
