FieldSport Micro Red Dot: FIELD TESTED A+
After reading Amazon customers reviews and viewing several YouTube videos, mostly all positive about this red dot, was convinced and pulled the trigger on 10/19 received it on 10/21. Can understand being sold out hours after ordering. How do you say....selling like hot cakes. Overall first impressions were kinda neutral comparing this sight to my other micro red dots, Primary Arms(2) and Bushnell. Looking thru the lens there's a blue/green tint to them, as where my higher end red dots have a clear lens, not a deal breaker at $20, just an indication of quality. Really like the 9 o'clock position of the emitter, doesn't interfere with lower 1/3 co-witness like others with a 5 o'clock emitter. The only con against is the brightness of the settings - at the range today bright sunny skies - had to set @9/10 to see dot. Detents between these settings are positive, but not firm like the Primary Arms or Bushnell. Elevation and Windage adjustments require a small blade screwdriver unlike other red dots using a coin or cartridge rim. MOA adjustments (1click=1/2in @ 100yds) have a audible click to them. This 4MOA dot is very large at 50yds, just about right at 25yds (still prefer a 2moa dot). Overall quality build - no glue around lens edges, no dings on the anodized finish, no optic or prism issues, solid base mount - Pretty damn good for a $20 red dot. But like they say: Proof is in the pudding. So here's my field test today at the range. AR15 platform. Aero Precision Gen 2 Lower. Bear Creek Arsenal Brown Bear Upper. 1:9 twist 16in 223 Wylde A2 FS. Magpul rear MBUS. AIM Surplus v2 Black Nitride BCG. Mounted the micro red dot on a UTG Hi-Profile Compact Riser Mount, 1" High, 3 Slots for a lower 1/3 co-witness in conjunction with iron sights. Zeroing the FieldSport Micro Red Dot - ammo used was Prvi Partizan 556 NATO M193 55gr FMJBT. Excellent/Accurate ammo, bought several 200rd battle packs (see photo) earlier this year. Out of the box, at 50yds the sight was shooting low(3in) and right(4in) with sandbag rest on a 8in target. 10rds later was able to confirm a zero with a 10 shot group: 9 in the 10 ring & 1 in the 9 ring. (See Photo). Spot on accurate at 15-35yrds (free handed) on a torso size B-27 target. Held up nicely all day, shooting various targets and at various distances. 120 rounds of Prvi Partizan M193 and American Eagle XM193 spent. Overall I'm very surprised & impressed with the performance of this red dot sight at the price point of $20. Should have purchased several of these red dots. (UPDATE: Did purchase a second sight on 10/28 (came back in stock) and found this sight to even have a better build quality, with an absolutely clear lens and firmer detent adjustments, what a surprise - go figure, but brightness settings still suffering-had to set @ 9/10). Equate this bargain deal with another bargain deal, the Ozark Trail 12in1 muti-tool at Wal-Mart for $3.87. Use this muti-tool to make those elevation & windage adjustments. Was up to par with my other micro red dots at a value price 5 to 7 times less. The real test will come when I mount it on my 12 gauge. You can't go wrong with a little quality along with a little price tag. Right? Highly Recommended. Thank You. JD590.
