Finally, a high-quality dehumidifier!
I am running an Alorair Sentinel HD55 dehumidifier unducted in my finished basement. The unit is solidly built, efficient, effective, and relatively quiet.
Set 48% relative humidity, it operates reliably with six-point hysteresis, turning on at 51% and turning off at 45%. The remote controller, purchased separately and located in still air about four feet from the HD55, is giving longer and more efficient duty cycles than I was getting with the onboard humidistat.
With the HD55 level and its filter clean, I measure 65db at three feet. The sound is almost entirely that of rushing air. The compressor is audible, but at a significantly lower and less grating frequency than those of dehumidifiers from Fridgidair and Tosot that I tried earlier this year and found intolerable.
Overall, I find the Alorair HD55 to be of higher quality, and to offer greater versatility, than any other dehumidifier I have used.
UPDATE: Removed duct adapter from exhaust port and now measure 63db at three feet. Sound signature softer with less hiss.
UPDATE: Display board failed in second week of use, although unit remained fully operational with remote control. Contacted Alorair by email and requested replacement board under warranty. Response was prompt and friendly and part arrived a few days later. Installation was simple and fault is corrected.
