A good, old-fashioned Georgette Heyer-style Regency novel
I liked it a lot. It's well-written and true to the period. In the tradition of Jane Austen (and Georgette Heyer, who invented the Regency/Georgian romance genre), this novel does not contain explicit sex every 30 pages or so. A romance novel doesn't need explicit sex, which has become as ubiquitous as dumb car chases in action movies. I usually find that the now standard sex scenes in most romance novels do not advance the plot, tend to be mechanical, and are just plain boring. I'm grateful to be spared gratuitous sex scenes, and I suspect I'm not alone.
This is also a pretty good mystery, the kind Jane Austen herself might write. I'll be buying the rest of the series.
