The lamp works well and it really lights up the whole room. It was extremely easy to put together-- simply screwing the poles together and attaching the base. It does not lean and the base is heavy enough for it to not tip over. It does not come with a light bulb, but to my knowledge, you can use a standard bulb. The lampshade is made of a hard, semi-opaque plastic. The lamp loses a star because the cord is unsightly. It starts at the shade and continues down to the base on the outside of the pole. It comes with clips to keep it attached to the pole but if the cord has some slack, it ends up looking worse. The cord does have a switch to make it easy to use. Other similar lamps have the cord on the inside of the poles and it comes out of the bottom hiding the cord and preventing tripping over it.
