It compresses enough so that my elbow feels firm while also keeping the elbow warm. I can still bend my arm past a 90 degree angle without restriction but with a firm feeling of support. Its a little bit thicker so I wouldn't run or do anything extremely intensive where you need a ton of breathability. I use it for weightlifting and a little more support when using heavier weights without too much restriction.
