Amount of time researching iPad Air 2 case greater than reading War and Peace 3x
Using the advice of previous reviews, I decided to "take a chance" on this keyboard for iPad Air 2. I am going to focus on key points I was concerned with during my search for new keyboard/cover. I air travel a lot. So weight and size are a main concern since this will be riding with my carryon that already has an 11" work laptop and all my power needs. BUT I also wanted a keyboard to use my instant on and connected iPad to answer emails and consume media during my travels and seat time in airports and planes. How heavy is it? According to a palm scale I have; the airbender, without iPad, weighed 502.8 grams. Which according to Siri is 1.11 lbs. The detachable top portion weighed in at 106 grams or 0.23lbs. What is profile when closed? The attached pictures are showing product laying on top of and perfectly squared up with my macbook pro 13". Although the photos appear as though the airbender is hanging over the mac, it is perfectly squared. Optical illusion apparently. How "sturdy" is it? It is plastic but there is some strength to the product. It is definitely NOT flimsy. The hinge is VERY stiff and made of metal, I thought I was going to break the removable part of the case when first opening the product. I would imagine this will become a bit easier to open and close but it does give me additional confidence this is a solid product. Removing the upper portion from the keyboard is pretty simple but a bit awkward but I see this becoming easier as I practice when I want to use the cover with out the keyboard when I am consuming mode. Although the entire product does fold 180 degrees to give you the same experience as removing the top half from keyboard, just a little more bulk in your hands. Typing? Not bad. Good response from keys. You can definitely hear them click. Just like I hear keys clicking on my mac while typing this review. Letter keys are a tiny bit smaller than macbook pro keys but not much. The keyboard real estate is made up with the smaller function keys, see photos. It is a bit top heavy but flipping out the stabilizing bracket serves two purposes. Additional stability laying flat or keeping bar at an angle will give you additional view opportunities in addition to the "laptop like" viewing angles you get with case put together. I sincerely hope this helps in your decision making process. If your wants and needs are similar to my description above, I highly recommend this case.
