I needed a basic baby monitor to put in my son’s room in an upstairs bedroom for early mornings while I was working in a downstairs office before he woke up. The monitor has no problems with reception between floors and the sound is pretty clear with just a little static but is acceptable for my use. The base unit which you place in the room to be monitored has a plug and cannot be powered by batteries. The plug is about 5 feet long so be aware if you need a longer cord that may be an issue. I have the base on top of a standard 5 drawer dresser which is right next to an outlet and the cord is long enough to have just a little slack. The receiving unit has 3 buttons, power, volume up and volume down and 2 indicator lights for power/link and low battery. The receiving unit takes 2 AAA batteries or can be powered by a plug which is provided. I wanted to test the battery life so I put new Duracel Procell batteries (https://www.amazon.com/Duracell-Procell-AA-Pack-PC1500BKD09/dp/B00GVJP2DY) and left the receiving unit on overnight on consecutive nights. It made it through the first night (about 7 hours) but less than an hour into night 2, it was indicating low battery and about an hour after that (9 hours total use) it was dead. I repeated the process with a new set of batteries and saw the same result. The receiver does have a power cord which is the same length as the one for the base unit so if you have an outlet close enough and do not need to move the receiving unit around much, this may be a minimal issue. If you do not have an outlet close to where the receiving unit will be placed or you need it to be mobile, this is may be a deal breaker. I did not try rechargeable batteries which would be an option but you will likely need at multiple sets of 2 you can swap out each night or recharge during the day and put them back in overnight. Overall, this is a great basic monitor with no bells and whistles and poor battery life but it has a great price point, good range and good sound quality. If all you need is a basic unit and you have power outlets close enough or can use rechargeable batteries, this may be the right monitor for you.
