Go to YouTube, search for "How To Use SB7 Spirit Box" and watch a couple short tutorial videos. They made all the difference, for a total amateur like myself. My wife died recently, and I was desperate to make contact, to make sure she is alright. Actually listening to the Box, you don't hear much, because of the white noise and channel-changing sound (quite loud), and the channels switch very fast (as per tutorial). After doing a bit of research, I reluctantly tried using my digital recorder to record the "noise." When I played it back on Media Player, untreated, I made out a WHOLE LOT I DID NOT HEAR, when I initially recorded it. There were very clear words and short sentences, consistent voices, and even what very apparently seemed to be my wife speaking. Then my brother-in-law, a techy sort, used sound software to enhance reverb/echo and clear out some of the white noise, and WOW! We both heard her very clearly. I was very comforted.
