There's an air movement trick . . .
This is a great looking fan, and it runs without any wobble . . . no balancing necessary. The blades are a dark (walnut) brown, and a black w/ gray wood grain on the reverse side. I installed this as a flush mount (which probably helps with wobble) in our bedroom, without the included short down rod. This puts the fan blades' upper edges right at 4 inches from the ceiling. The ceiling is 96 inches (8 ft) and the light globe is at 86.5 inches (9.5 inches down) which is over 7 feet from the floor. The lower edge of the blades are at 91 inches. Plenty of head room.
One problem with the close / flush mount is the small area above the blades restricts air movement. As the fan spins, air is forced outward as well as down. The outward flow "blocks" the movement of air to the top of the fan and reduces the efficiency pretty drastically.
There are two solutions to this problem, one which I've tested. The trick is to simply reverse the fan direction. The outward movement of air is still there, but now it assists the upward moving air to blow out and around the room. I would say the air movement on the Low Speed is just as good with the fan blowing upward as it is on High Speed with the fan blowing down. Feels great laying on the bed in our 12 x 15 foot room. (Just as a note, the reverse thing in the winter is really only effective if you have a big room with high ceilings. You run a fan on a very low speed to bring the warm air down along the outer walls from above, but hopefully without noticeable air movement. With this fan In a smaller room, you'll feel the air flow which has a chilling affect.)
The other possible solution is to mount the fan with the down rod. This will lower the fan about 4 inches ( a guess, with the include 4" rod) from the ceiling - which would be OK in most situations for an 8 foot ceiling - and give more room for air flow. If you try this, please leave a comment!
There is a bit of motor hum, but its only annoyingly noticeable on the high speed; and since the air movement noise is greater than the buzz, it mostly gets drowned out. Not a deal breaker for me.
I wired mine so that the existing light switch (which used to only operate wall outlets) turns on/off the light, but the fan is directly powered and is operated solely by the remote. My light switch is NOT a dimmer switch, so I get full light intensity with the switch, which means if you have the light on - via the remote - at a dimmed setting, the wall switch will allow you to switch between full on and the dimmed setting. You'll need the remote to turn the light off if you use it to turn the light on.
I've included a wiring diagram if you want to wire yours this way.
(BTW, you can just run the hot wire through the switch and directly to the red wire for the Controller. Then when you turn on the switch the fan & light will be in the state they were when you turned them off. Not quite as versatile but OK.)
