First, if you live in a humid area (humidity > 65%) don't bother with any evaporative coolers (aka swamp coolers). This will not be effective in the hot and humid east coast, or in places like Florida. This is perfect for desert states or for places like California. I am in Northern California and this works great (45% humidity today). This will not cool a room, but it literally creates a microclimate around your desk. I am using this in my home office which faces west and gets into the low 90s in the afternoon. This device keys me comfortable by blowing air in the low 70s directly at me. I can immediately feel the difference when leaving my chair and walking to the other side of the room. I too was skeptical when they mentioned micro climates, but if you are using this at a desk, and you don't need to move around the room that much, this will really create a bubble of cool air around you. I actually used it on level 2 (out of 4) because I got cold. I am genuinely surprised how well this works, and that it can run off of the USB port from my MacBook pro. Yes, it costs a lot, but I feel it is worth it from a design standpoint. Works off of USB, relatively quiet, and is compact enough for a desk.
