So I was initially hesitant to buy this handheld carpet cleaner. Many of the reviews were stating that the battery does not last long or that the hose is too short or that it doesn't work well. Here's what I've experienced: When I first got the carpet cleaner, I went to charge the battery and after several hours, popped it into the machine. It worked for like 3 minutes and then stopped working. I was very confused. So I went to plug the charger and battery up in a different outlet and left it overnight this time. The next morning, the battery lasted for 30 seconds before going out. I thought I had a defective battery and was preparing to call Hoover, but then my father suggested that I plug it in an outlet in a different part of the house, and voila! The battery started charging! He explained that sometimes plugs on a certain circuit breaker (in a specific room) will not charge certain devices and that this happens in many people's homes. (He is an appliance technician.) This may explain why some customers are experiencing their batteries going out quickly or not working properly at all. But that's just my theory. Within a couple hours, it was charged all the way, and I went on to clean 5 stair steps and two sections of a sofa on A SINGLE CHARGE. I did have to refill the water about 5 - 6 times. So yes, you will have to continuously do that. And the hose is very short, so the machine will have to be close by. But it took me about 20 minutes to do all of that. And the machine battery lasted the whole time before going out shortly after when I went to do touch ups. 20 minutes may not be an overly long time. But that was much better than I expected after reading the reviews. I normally don't review products at all. But I think that people should be aware that the battery may need to be charged in a different outlet, in a different room, to get the full charge that it needs. So far I am satisfied with the machine, and if anything changes, I definitely plan to update my review.
